Brood Jennets
"A Note to Breeders"
We look for excellent conformation in our breeding jennets. Our goal, as breeders,
is to produce donkeys that will exhibit show winning halter conformation. We
do not sacrifice a fluid way of going, since it is critical in the area of performance
and is an equal part of their conformation. We do place a high importance on
temperament. A donkey with a good disposition is easier to train and will go
a long way in life as a treasured and loving family pet. It is one of the best
things about miniature donkeys and we look for this quality in our breeding jennets
as well as our jacks.
Our jacks are very small, and most of our jennets are in the 32" to 33½" range.
We have all colors including Red, Dark Brown, Black, Gray and Spotted.
What does "Correct" mean to us? It means a donkey has excellent conformation according to the National Miniature Donkey Association (NMDA) breed standard. We have spent much time and effort selecting and breeding top quality animals in the industry, as reflected by our show record (see AWARDS page). Showing is one way to learn the difference between "good" and "best", and we have always, and always will breed for the best quality available in the world of miniature donkeys. We have sold many donkeys who have gone on to become Champions on other farms, and many have left our farm as Champions.

Cupcake
is on my jennets page as a reference jennet. She is no longer bred
due to a series of bad founders with her previous owner. We adopted
her after her last foal was born, and she could not stand up. We
nursed her back to her feet, and she has done very well ever since,
but we don't breed her. She is 21 years old in the photo. She sired an
exceptional little jack named 758's Java, who is also retired, and he
gave us our Li'l Angels
Candy Kisses. Candy is the mother to Li'l
Angels Black Diamond, owned by Isobel McGuinness in England, and our
very own Candyman, who will appear soon on our herd sire page as a
Junior Herd sire. When Cupcake came to us she had a two day old foal
with her, who had to nurse while Cupcake was laying down. Her name is
Strawberry
Cupcake, and she is a future brood jennet on our farm.
Cupcake has had many exceptional offspring, and we are glad to allow
her to retire here on our farm. She has become quite friendly and is a
very sweet, loving jennet.

We
were in Missouri teaching a clinic on Easter weekend in 2007, and
I was praying this jennet would not be born till I returned. It was
18 degrees in Missouri and we actuallly had a big frost in Texas.
Well, guess what? The lady that was ranch sitting for me called that
morning to tell me Chanel's foal was here! So now you know where
she got her name!
Easter Frost as a newborn below.

What a little darling Easter is. I have been so impressed with her
since birth, and she is the most like her dad of all his foals. Her
sweet personality and charm make her an absolute favorite around here,
and many have wanted her for themselves. We are very proud to present
her as a brood jennet on our farm, and look for many great offspring.
I just want to keep her in the house!
Easter is obviously a clone of her dad, but her mother Chanel, below,
is also an exceptional jennet. Chanel is beautifully balanced, and
has a gorgeous head. In fact, I think Easter's head looks a lot like
her mother's AND her dad's.

Candy
Kisses reminded me of a chocolate drop when she was a baby. She was
such a beautiful little foal. Growing up, she was always one of my
best and most favorite jennets, but as a mature jennet she just blows
me away. I love her roaning and her unusual color, but more importantly
I love her perfect conformation. I always thought she would be exceptional,
and she has not disappointed me at all! Her sweet personality and
willing attitude make her a joy to be around.
In addition to her own qualities, she has given us two exception foals.
I don't think I have ever seen more perfect foals than her two boys.
Her first foal, Li'l
Angels Black Diamond, went to England as a herd sire and is doing
extremely well in the show ring. Her second foal, Candyman, will be
retained here as a herd sire. He will be a year old in November, and
will begin his show career this fall. Hopefully, we will be breeding
him by this time next year. Both of her sons are very small, compact,
stocky, have perfect legs and gorgeous heads. Candy is currently bred
to 758's Red
Pride.

Ruby
Slippers is a real eye catcher, and has been very popular with visitors
and breeders. She was a gorgeous foal, like most of Red October's
daughters, and we always thought she would grow up to be a spectacular
jennet. No great surprise that she is one of the prettiest jennets
on my farm. We only took her to one show, in order to compete for
the Supreme Champion Sire award that she did help her dad win, along
with Crimson Tide and Heaven Sent (below).
Ruby is very small, very stocky, and super cute. Her conformation is
excellent, and her disposition is the best. She even looks gorgeous in
her winter coat. She is always the first to greet you in the pasture,
and LOVES the golf cart! She follows me everywhere, and never misses
an opportunity to visit with anyone.
Her mother, Maggie (seen on this page) has been a great producer for
us. Maggie has a red sire, and has produced three red daughters sired
by Red October. Ruby is a full sister to Katie
Scarlett and Cream
Tangerine.

Heaven Sent's complete pedigree.
First, Heaven Sent is one of our treasured daughters out of a little
jennet named Lynette. Lynette was a very small, gray jennet who
happened to have outstanding conformation. Her topline never dropped
even a fraction of an inch, even after eight foals. So bear with me as
I give a little history, since Lynette was the first jennet I ever
purchased, along with two of her daughters, Emmaline and Olympia.
Lynette is the mother to Emmaline, who was the mother to Li'l Angels
Debra Nell (owned and shown by Kenny and Missi Webb of Little Rasscals
Miniature Donkeys), Li'l Angels Esther (currently owned by Cindy
Benson of Benson Ranch, mother to Lacey Doll and Marquise, both shown
below, and Blue Print, a show gelding). Lynette is also the mother to
Li'l Angels Jazzlynn, one of our best performance jennets, and a multi
champion in both halter and performance. Lynette also produced Li'l
Angels Bethany, who is also a superior jennet and a full sister to
Heaven Sent. Lynette is also the mother to a jennet named Olympia, who
is the mother to Li'l Angels Hannah, also seen below.
So, as you can see, there is a lot of history with this little jennet,
Lynette. She is no doubt an outstanding producer, and we are very
proud to have many of her daughters and granddaughters on our farm.
They are all outstanding quality, and very trainable.
Heaven Sent was only shown once, and won NMDA Junior Reserve Champion
at the Texas State Championship in 2007, as a yearling. She is very
cute, small and VERY stocky and compact. As a daughter of Red October,
she also carries the red gene.
Heaven is currently bred to Galaxy, and
I expect they will produce something very special. Look for her foal in the spring
of 2010.

My
Sunshine was an easy jennet to name, she just lit up my day when
she was born! We had bred her mother, Shawnee, to Red October for
her first foal, and the result was a little beautiful little red
jack foal. We tried again, but wanted to try an outside breeding
with her, hoping for a girl we could retain for breeding, with a
bloodline that was different from our others. We chose Short ASSets
Starfire, owned and shown by Frontier Legends, and the result was
this gorgeous red jennet. Bingo! Oh, yes, I knew I would be keeping
her!
Sunshine is so gorgeous, and so feminine. She is even prettier in
person, and looks great with her winter
coat also. I love her very
correct conformation, and her adorable personality. Such a sweetie! We
have spent many years developing a strong red breeding program, and
this girl fits in beautifully.

Paulette
is a very special jennet for many reasons. First, she is absolutely
gorgeous. She has won many Halter Championships, and she is also
an outstanding performance jennet. She was also one of my first foal
crop, and she is a Jazzy daughter.
That makes her a half sister to Sparkle, Jazzlynn and Hannah.
Ozark Jazzy Jamm was
our first herd sire, and he was an outstanding producer. He is also the sire
to Li'l Angels Shining Spark, and Li'l Angels Axelle, both multiple Halter Champions,
and Axelle is a multiple Performance Champion.
Paulette is an outstanding example of his produce, and one of our most
treasured jennets. We showed Paulette until she was five, and decided
to breed her. She never did take, and we began to think she never
would. Finally, she did conceive, and we were all broken hearted when
her first foal was presented "transverse". We rushed her to A&M, and
they were able to remove the foal, but, of course, it didn't survive.
Paulette was devastated, and so were we. Such a long time to wait, for
such a great disappointment.
We were getting ready for the Texas Shoot Out in '08, and since she
was open, we decided to take her. I didn't want to breed her back
right away, even though the vets said she was not damaged. I just
wanted to give her a little time. She looked wonderful, and I thought
getting ready for a show would take her mind off her baby. She
responded to the activity beautifully, and it seemed to be the best
medicine for her. To our delight, she won 1st Place 5 & Over Jennets,
and Reserve Champion in Halter. That was amazing in itself, but she
also went on to show in performance and won the Reserve Champion Open
Versatility. What a girl! The trail photo above was taken at that
show, and she was shown by my friend, Rose Jones, in the green jacket.
The best part of the story is that we bred her a month after the show,
and she conceived right away. Since then she has had her first live
foal, and we are thrilled for her. You can certainly see how much she
loves him. His name is Sterling, and he is sired by our Li'l
Angels Full Moon. If she never has another foal, it was all worth it to see
how much she loves this one. I may never take him away from her!

I
first saw this beautiful jennet when she was a foal. We almost bought
her then, but we had a lot of young ones at that time. Just didn't
need another one. Then, some friends went to visit Ida Bess, and
they told me they saw a beautiful little brown no light point jennet,
and almost bought her. I knew exactly who they were talking about.
We went to visit again, and I just totally caved in when I saw her
as a yearling. What a beauty!
Allegra lives here now, and we are very proud to have her. In fact,
she has just given us her first foal, and she's a real beauty! Alicia is sired by our very own Li'l
Angels Brave Heart (owned and shown by L.J. & Deb Mix, Wee Ones Farm, Tennessee)
and will be the only girl we have by him, since he has been sold. Alicia is small,
dark, and VERY correct.
You can see in the photos that Allegra is very correct. She is also
very upright, and carries herself with grace and beauty. She has a
gorgeous way of going, and always holds her head and neck so poised. I
also love her sweet temperament. So far, Alicia, her first foal, is just as sweet
and a very lovely little girl. Look for photos of Alicia on our 'future

Isn't
she stunning? I have always been very taken with this jennet, and
she just gets better all the time. She is currently bred to Little
Greek, both half reds. I would not be unhappy if she gives us a red
foal, but whatever she has is sure to be spectacular.
I love the balance on this jennet, and she has so much presence. You
can't miss her in the pasture, she is always sharp looking, and so
striking. I love all the white against that very dark brown. I also
love her super legs, her stocky build and her nice topline. She is
also very compact, which is very appealing.
The breeding possibilities with Marguirite are endless. Bred to red,
she can produce red or dark brown. Bred to brown, or half red she can
still produce that dark rich color, or red. We have even had some
mahogany out of this type of cross. She would also do very well with
our Li'l Angles Indiana Jones, giving us the possibility of a dark
spot. I can't wait to see her first foal, in the spring, but after
that the options are endless. I think we might have to try Indy next!
Look for her gorgeous foal in the spring of 2010.

Bethany is an absolute darling! She is a full sister to Heaven
Sent (be sure to read up on their mother in Heaven's write up, above), and
sired by Red October, so she carries the red gene.
Bethany has always been special to me. I especially love her sweet
face and her disposition is exactly what you see in that face! Super
sweet little girl. I grew even more fond of her when she gave us
Roscoe, an adorable little jack foal. He is just perfect in every way.
Bethany was our second Red October foal, and I have never seen a more
perfect little girl. She was so stocky, and so straight legged at
birth. She has her mothers perfect topline, and overall conformation.
Actually, both parents have super conformation, so it's no surprise
that she is such a nice jennet. She has matured into an exceptional
young lady, and we are very proud of her.
Bethany recently gave us another gorgeous jack foal, named Benson.
Benson is very small and super stocky. He's a very cute little fellow,
with exceptional conformation. Benson is sired by Red
Pride, so
although he is brown he does carry the red gene from his sire. We
expect great things from this little guy, and many more superior foals
out of Bethany!

I bought Anny when she was just six months old, and it seemed like
forever getting her old enough to breed, and getting her first foal
here. She recently had her first foal, sired by Playbill, and she was
so much worth waiting for. She gave us a gorgeous little dark, reddish
brown jennet foal, named Elsie. I'm not sure why my husband got stuck
on that name, but it's cute, and he so rarely names one, that I just
said OK! He just fell in love with her, and thought her name should be
Elsie....so Elsie it is!
Anny is such a stocky little jennet. She has super straight, wide set
legs, and a very pretty rich reddish brown color. Her foal is so red
she is almost a sorrel. And, as you can see, Anny's face is absolutely
adorable. This is a really cute little jennet, and one that people
often fall in love with.
Anny will be bred to Indiana
Jones in the fall. That one is going to
be very hard to wait for!

Hannah
and Sparkle look
almost alike, in fact, you would think they were full sisters. Actually,
Hannah's mother, Olympia (another Lynette daughter), is a full sister
to Debra Nell's mother (owned by Kenny and Missi Webb, Little Rasscals
Miniature Donkeys) Emmaline, and since they are both Jazzy daughter's,
that makes them full sisters on paper. Also, they were both just
a couple of weeks apart, but it was Sparkle that
she always reminded me of, and still does.
Hannah is a beautiful silver gray jennet, with a cute little star on
her forehead. She has a very cute little babydoll face, and big
beautiful eyes. I love her stocky build, and overall balance. And, of
course, she has that gorgeous "tabletop" topline, as do all my Jazzy
daughters.
Hannah is currently bred to Full
Moon, and I'm just pacing the floor
already. When I wrote about Lynette, I mentioned that Jazzlynn is one
of our performance jennets, and that Lynette is a great producer, but
I didn't talk about the fact that Lynette's daughters are also
exceptionally trainable, and great movers. I worked with Hannah when
she was young, and she was very "push button". I really wanted to show
her, but I was dedicated to Jazzlynn, Paulette and Axelle at the time,
and I just couldn't really do another one. I was very impressed with
her, and believe she would have been great in the show ring. So
instead of showing her, I waited to breed her to Full Moon, who is
also an exceptional mover, and a great performance donkey. Yes, I'm
expecting a foal who will be very trainable, and hopefully make a
great performance donkey, not sacrificing halter conformation. Full
Moon is a National Champion Halter Jack, and paired with Hannah's
wonderful conformation and overall beauty, I just don't see how we
could miss! Well, we will see pretty soon! Hannah is due in September. I
will update her photos after her foal is born.

I first saw Susanna when she was very young, about six months. I
thought she was really nice then, and she has grown into a beautiful

balanced, with a wonderful topline. I had hoped to get some photos of
her before she was bred, but as you can see, she is pretty pregnant in
these. She looks great anyway.
Susanna is always noticed on the farm, and she has a super sweet
personality. We bred her to Full
Moon for her first foal. Both parents
have so much to contribute to this pairing, we have great expectations
about this one.
Susanna's color is very unusual. She is actually very dark brown, but
she does not have a cross at all. I would call her black, but she
really is dark brown. Whatever you want to call her color is OK with
me, I just call it gorgeous.

and very feminine. She looks distinctly different from my other Red
October daughters. She is bigger than most of them also, but I think
she looks like her mother, Clarabell. Obviously Rhoda is a lot darker.
Rhoda was born with super wide, and very straight legs. She has not
changed. Her legs are perfect and very wide, and her conformation
overall is just beautiful. I know she is standing a bit lazy in the
photo, but she does carry herself with grace and poise, and has a
great deal of presence. Rhoda really stands out, and visitors always
ask about her. She has a very nice pedigree, and has a strong future

Maggie is one of those jennets that you don't really notice, I'm sure
largely due to her color that kind of blends in with the scenery. She
is often overlooked on my farm, and I always have a good chuckle when
people see her offspring and ask about their mother. They often get

thinking.....How did that gorgeous, dark red foal come out of that
plain brown jennet? Well, don't think for a minute I'm putting little
Maggie down, becuse she is...yes, you guessed it....one of my

that for us, and all of her foals have been extremely showey and
especially beautiful. Her first foal was a very dark brown jennet
named Savannah, who went to one show and became
a Champion for her owner, Kim Winton and Jim Speck of AssN9 Ranch. Her second
foal, Ruby Slippers, is a future brood jennet, and also helped her dad, Red
October, win Supreme Champion Sire Award. Katie
Scarlett was her third
foal, and now we have Cream
Tangerine, who might just be my most
favorite of all Maggie's foals. As you can see, Maggie is an
exceptional producer.
Maggie is definitely one of the sweetest jennets on the farm, and
always brings her foals to me as soon as they are born, as if to say
"want to share?". Her foals are always just as sweet as she is, and
always the first to greet everyone. I just love them all, and their
mother.
Maggie will be bred to Indiana
Jones the next time around, and it will
be very interesting to see what she produces with him, since Savannah
was sired by his dad. Perhaps a spotted Savannah? We certainly won't
mind that!

Girl's complete pedigree.
Pandora was Cheyenne's first foal, and what a little beauty she is. She went
to England, to Isobel McGuinnes, Cashal Stud. Cheyenne gave us another
gorgeous jennet foal this spring, born on St. Patrick's day. Her
name is Kelly Green (couldn't resist), and what a beauty she is.
She has been sold to Cindy Benson of Benson Ranch.
If Cheyenne had not given us these two beautiful girls, she would
still be treasured for her wonderful conformation and her overall
beauty. She is exceptional, and what a mover! This girl really flies!
We are torn as to which direction to go with Cheyenne for her next
breeding, since she has the potential to produce some exceptional
performance offspring, but most likely it will just be too tempting to
not go to Indy with this one. But you never know, we could go either
way. Whatever we decide, I'm sure she will continue to produce
outstanding offspring, and we very much look forward to the next one!
